Aviation accident law is a set of rules enforced to ensure the safety
standards for the maintenance and operation of aircrafts are being
met. These laws detail the standard level of care which must be taken
by the airline crew and pilots during the flight of the aircraft.
The laws are also guidelines for the correct maintenance of all aviation
facilities, such as airports and runways, including the airplanes.
Two federal agencies, The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB)
and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) are considered to be
responsible for monitoring all air travel and inspecting all airplane
accident events.
Aviation accident laws apply to commercial or major carrier accidents
in addition to general aviation or private carrier accidents. The
two types of accident categories are as follows:
Major Carrier Accidents: Airplane accidents on a
commercial aircraft for international and domestic carriers.
General Aviation Accidents: Airplane accidents of
all types on non-commercial carriers such as private helicopters,
charter flights, small private airplanes, or big business jets.
Failure to comply with FAA rules and regulations is the most common
cause for airplane accidents on either types of carriers, commercial
and non-commercial. Other sources for airplane accidents are faulty
equipment and airliner, negligence by air traffic controllers or negligence
by pilot or flight crew.
